What makes a good receipt?

A valid receipt confirms that money changed hands. At a minimum it should show the payer, the business receiving payment, the date, the amount and the payment method. For tax, rent or reimbursement purposes, keep a copy for both parties.

When to use each template

Cash receipt — any in-person cash, check or card payment. Works for freelancers, tradespeople and small shops.
Rent receipt — landlords can reuse the cash receipt: put the property address in the business field and the tenant as payer.
Service receipt — after finishing a job, itemise the work and hand over a receipt on the spot.
