Frequently asked questions

What is an independent contractor agreement?

It's a contract between a business and a self-employed worker that sets out the work, payment, timeline and the fact that the worker is not an employee.

What should an independent contractor agreement include?

Names of both parties, scope of work, payment terms, start and end dates, contractor status, IP ownership, confidentiality, termination and governing law.

Does this make someone a contractor instead of an employee?

No contract alone decides that — the actual working relationship does. Check IRS and state rules (like California's ABC test) and consult a lawyer for high-stakes situations.

Is this contractor agreement template free?

Yes. Edit online and download the PDF with no sign-up.
